Free 60-min migration review
Move from Looker to Omni with a fixed-scope plan
Shearwater Data was founded by early Looker team members. In a free 60-minute migration review we look at your LookML, dashboards and embeds, and tell you what moving to Omni involves and how long it takes.
- Omnify, our open-source converter, translates LookML into Omni models
- Every number is tied out against Looker before you switch

What happens in the 60 minutes
A working session with someone who has built and run Looker estates. Bring whoever owns the model.
- Your setup.Models, dashboards in use, embeds, schedules, access rules and your renewal date.
- The Omni map. What carries over as is, what Omnify converts, and what needs hands-on work.
- Scope and timeline.A size band and the things that drive it. If staying on Looker makes more sense for you, we say so.
- Next steps. If it makes sense to go further, we scope the work with you from what we found.
How the migration runs
Four stages, each with an output you keep.
- Inventory and retire. We count the dashboards, Looks and explores people opened in the last 90 days. Your team signs off a keep, merge or retire list, so nothing dead gets rebuilt.
- Convert with Omnify.Omnify, our open-source LookML converter, translates views, fields and joins into Omni models. Our engineers review every change as a pull request in your repo and hand-build what Omnify cannot convert.
- Rebuild and parity test.Dashboards, schedules and embeds are rebuilt in priority order. Each one is compared with Looker on the same filters and date ranges, and every difference is explained or fixed in a tie-out log you keep.
- Cut over on your date.Looker and Omni run side by side until each dashboard owner signs off. Looker is switched off after that, with a checklist for the schedules and exports people forget.
Who this is for
- Data teams running Looker on a cloud warehouse
- A renewal, a price change or a self-service push on the calendar
- Embedded analytics estates, where the cutover has to be invisible to your customers
Who it is not for
- Teams using only the free Looker Studio
- Anyone after a price without a conversation about scope
Questions
What does the review cost, and what do we commit to?
The review is free and you commit to nothing. If you go ahead, the migration is scoped as a fixed project from what we learn in the review.
How long does a Looker to Omni migration take?
It depends on how many dashboards are in active use, the size of your LookML, embedded customers and scheduled deliveries. Zapnito's embedded analytics migration took four weeks (Jon Beer, COO: "all in 4 weeks"). The review gives you a size band for your own estate.
Can Omnify convert our LookML automatically?
Omnify translates most LookML views, fields and joins into Omni models and opens the result as pull requests for an engineer to review. Some constructs, such as extends, Liquid templating and sets, need manual work. Omni also ships its own converter, and we use whichever fits each part of your model.
How do you make sure the numbers match?
Every migrated dashboard is compared with its Looker original, metric by metric, on the same filters and date ranges. Each difference gets an explanation or a fix in a tie-out log. Looker stays on until each owner signs off.
Can we migrate with Omni's own tools instead?
Yes, if your estate is small, your LookML is clean and someone on your team has time to run parity tests. A partner helps on large or embedded estates, where most of the work is model design, access rules, schedules and the dual run. The review tells you which case you are in.
Could we have an AI agent convert our dashboards ourselves?
It can redraw charts, and we use AI tooling ourselves. The hard part is the model underneath: shared definitions, access rules, schedules and embeds, and proof that every number matches before you switch. That is the work we do, and the AI helps us do it faster.
