Free 60-min migration review

Move from Domo to Omni, with a plan for your data layer

In a free 60-minute migration review, Shearwater Data looks at your Domo dashboards, Beast Modes and dataflows and tells you what a move to Omni takes, worked back from your contract date.

  • Beast Modes rebuilt as shared measures in one Omni model
  • Every number tied out against Domo before you switch

What happens in the 60 minutes

A working session on your Domo estate. Bring whoever owns your dataflows.

  1. Your Domo estate.Cards and dashboards in use, Beast Modes, DataSets, dataflows, PDP rules, embeds and your contract date.
  2. Where your data lives.Whether Domo is only your BI layer, or also your ETL and storage. This decides most of the timeline.
  3. Scope and timeline.A size band, the two tracks below, and whether the move fits before your contract ends.
  4. Next steps. If it makes sense to go further, we scope the work with you from what we found.

Two tracks, scoped separately

Domo often holds your ETL and storage as well as your dashboards, so we split the work.

BI layer

Dashboards and cards, Beast Modes, filters, PDP row-level access, alerts, scheduled reports and embedded apps.

Moves to Omni as models, measures, dashboards and permissions, with a tie-out per dashboard.

Data layer

Magic ETL and dataflows, DataSets stored in Domo, and connectors.

Usually rebuilt in your warehouse, with dbt or similar, then modeled in Omni.

How the migration runs

Five stages, each with an output you keep.

  1. Inventory and retire.Datasets, dataflows, cards and users, with usage over the last 90 days. Dead cards and duplicate datasets are retired with owner sign-off.
  2. Data layer plan. Each dataflow is moved to the warehouse, retired, or kept running for a set period.
  3. One model in Omni.Beast Modes become shared measures and dimensions, so each business definition lives in one place.
  4. Rebuild and parity test.Dashboards rebuilt in priority order, each compared with Domo on the same filters and date ranges, with every difference logged and resolved.
  5. Cut over on your date.Domo and Omni run side by side until owners sign off, then Domo is switched off with a checklist for alerts, schedules and exports.

Who this is for

  • Domo customers with a contract end or renewal in the next 12 months
  • Teams with business logic spread across Beast Modes and dataflows
  • A data owner who can sign off tie-outs

Who it is not for

  • Teams with a handful of cards
  • Teams that want a like-for-like Domo clone. Omni works differently, and the review shows how

Questions

What does the review cost, and what do we commit to?

The review is free and you commit to nothing. If you go ahead, the migration is scoped as a fixed project from what we learn in the review.

What happens to our Beast Modes?

They are rebuilt as measures and dimensions in a shared Omni model. We list every Beast Mode, merge duplicates, retire the dead ones and test each result against Domo before cutover.

Can we move to Omni if Domo is our data warehouse?

Yes, but Omni queries a cloud warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, so the data layer becomes the first track of the project. The review sizes it.

How long does a Domo to Omni migration take?

Mostly it depends on whether Domo also holds your ETL and storage. A dashboard-only move is much shorter than one that includes rebuilding dataflows. The review works back from your contract date.

What does the Progress acquisition mean for us?

Progress Software acquired Domo's platform business. What changes for customers depends on the new owner's roadmap, and we cannot speak for it. A migration plan lets you choose the date you move, whatever happens to the roadmap.

How do you prove the dashboards match?

Every migrated dashboard is compared with its Domo original on the same filters and date ranges, and each difference is explained or fixed in a tie-out log the business owner signs. Domo stays on until sign-off.

Could we have an AI agent convert our dashboards ourselves?

It can redraw charts, and we use AI tooling ourselves. The hard part is the model underneath: shared definitions, access rules, schedules and embeds, and proof that every number matches before you switch. That is the work we do, and the AI helps us do it faster.
